Neurodivergent in a Neurotypical World
Monday, October 24
6:30-8:00pm
University of Miami - Newman Alumni Center
6200 San Amaro Drive Coral Gables, FL 33146
Not only has Shawn Smith, CCC, LCT worked extensively with Neurodiverse youth and adults – he is a counseling therapist diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) late in life. These late in life diagnoses mean he understands what is lacking and what works well in the education system, with employers, and with social support systems. Shawn will discuss the three ages (physical, emotional, and intellectual) and what this means for people who are neurodiverse. Shawn will discuss how medication and proper support can provide a burst of self-growth that propel neurodiverse people forward and what this can mean for their social circles. He will highlight the resiliency that can finally be experienced by neurodiverse people with the right supports after years of not being valued in a neurotypical world.
